A little bit about me...

Born and raised in Solihull, England, my upbringing was deeply rooted in family values and community spirit. This close-knit environment fostered in me a sense of belonging and a strong drive to help others. Little did I know, a casual conversation at a Blossomfield Sports Clubs hockey match when I was fifteen would steer my career path towards dietetics.

A Change of Course: Discovering Nutrition

The pivotal moment came after a head injury in college, which necessitated a change in my course of study. It was during this period of uncertainty that I discovered my passion for nutrition. The case studies of individuals needing dietary interventions fascinated me. I was drawn to the challenge of micro-analysing diets to formulate plans backed by research to support people's health goals. Recognising my potential, a lecturer highlighted my academic achievements and encouraged me to pursue dietetics as a career. Despite university education not being in my initial plans, this encouragement led me to explore higher education in a field I loved.

Academic Pursuits: From Bachelor's to Master's

My academic journey led me to pursue a Bachelor's (with Honours) in Exercise, Nutrition and Health, where I excelled, especially in nutritional modules, achieving first-class grades. My desire to specialise in dietetics grew, and it motivated me to pursue a Master's in Dietetics at Birmingham City University, accredited by the British Dietetic Association (BDA).

Specialising in Women's Health

My Master's degree allowed me to delve deeper into women's health, focusing my research and written assignments on topics such as Vitamin D intake and its effects on Multiple Sclerosis symptoms in women, menopause advice, and the impact of vegetarian diets on dysmenorrhea symptoms. These projects not only expanded my knowledge but also affirmed my commitment to improving health through nutrition.

Professional Experience: Private Sector and NHS

My experiences during my Master's were diverse, ranging from roles in the private sector with Slimming World to various NHS hospitals across the West Midlands within: diabetes, IBS, ARFID, weight loss clinics to name a few. These opportunities enriched my understanding of nutritional therapy and reinforced my work ethic. I have worked for the last 12 months across a MacMillan oncology and medical surgical case load. My approach is one of listening and empathy, qualities that I believe are essential in fostering effective client relationships.

Beyond Dietetics: A Life Filled with Adventure

Outside work, my love for the outdoors – walking my dog, hiking, climbing, and, of course, playing hockey – remains strong. My upcoming goal to summit Mont Blanc in France is a testament to my belief in optimising nutrition to enhance physical performance and recovery.
